Sunlight, empty beds, an orchard waiting to be pruned – and how about those amazing views?
The Green Jobs Corp Project came in this week cleared the beds and did a general tidy up.
Oakleigh House is a Salvation Army house that helps hundreds of people every year. Whether they’re fleeing a domestic violence situation or they simply were made redundant and couldn’t find another job and therefore became homeless, Oakleigh House rehabilitates people so they can get on and enjoy life.
Oakleigh House has five units specifically set aside for domestic violence victims, one for homeless women, three individual flats for homeless men and four properties out in the community. These last ones are used to ‘transition’ people from the emergency accommodation back out into their community.
People typically stay at Oakleigh House for up to 12 months or until they’re found permanent housing.
If you would like to volunteer there are many ways you can- they have a shed on site where you could teach skills and a whole host of other programs in the works.
