It’s our Farmiversary!

PttP was born in the summer of 2009 and we have had quite a few changes in the model of how we do business over the years.  By far our most exciting and loved version is the one we are living right now – on The Farm at Burnie High.

This week we are celebrating three years on The Farm.

This is how we found The Farm.  More animal sanctuary than produce producing.  A blank canvas.  First job – contain and re-home all those free ranging beasties.

A lot of love…

and look what you can do when you have funds to pay staff!!

and when you have staff

Of course the community support we get with food donations and corporate volunteering – Lion, Wynyard Seafoods, Golden Grain Bakery, Woolworths, Second Bite, Costas, local farmers, backyard growers, Caterpillar. A special shout out to our Patron, Ben Milbourne who makes sure we appear in every series he produces!  This is #communityfood in action.

And the Burnie High staff and students.  Big love…

Our gold star volunteers make The Farm a family.  We’ve included our friends from Multicap and the Burnie School of Special Education here.  BIG LOVE to all past and present.

You know we are nothing if not determined.  Even though we are down to one part time employee, our volunteer family has grown to 25.  Hopefully we can get The Farm back to primo production this summer.

We know the massive difference we make in our community and we have shown we are here for the long run.  In 2016 we had over 17,000 people access fresh, nutritious food via our service and we grew and gathered over 80,000 kilos of produce.

In the lead up to TEN YEARS of Produce to the People (2019) you will continue to see us grow, gather and give.

If you would like to be a part of our PttP family you can pop in on one of our Volunteer Orientation hours held every second Tuesday of the month at 11am and/or head to give now to make a donation.

BIG LOVE to all from PttP founder, Penelope and the Produce to the People Board

Seeds to the People

seed bank header

We are very excited to launch our latest project – a NW Tassie SEED BANK – in collaboration with Multicap, with funding from the Mercy Foundation.

Every Thursday The Farm is becoming a hive of activity with our team cutting seed packets from recycled papers, sorting seeds already donated by locals and the wonderful folk at Urban Farming Tasmania then packaging them up ready to be given away.

How can you be a part of it?

Send us your seeds!  Preferably your home grown best so we keep things local and also know we are sharing the best of the best. Our address is PO Box 3097, Burnie 7320 or you can drop in and see us between 9-2 every Tuesday & Thursday.

Ask for seeds! If you are starting a garden or would like to add some local goodness get in contact and hopefully within a few weeks we will have enough in store to send out.

Learn how to save seeds!  We will be sharing seed saving starter tips right here over the coming months.  Sign up to the blog so you don’t miss out.

Volunteering – so good for the soul

volunteer call out August 2017

No one likes to admit it, but we are getting a little desperate.

Desperate for volunteers to work in our gardens.

This Tuesday we are holding our monthly volunteer orientation hour at 11 am and invite individuals, service organisations, schools and businesses to come along to see how you might be able to help us feed your community.

Join Burnie High School students, Caterpillar, Multicap and a host of individuals who already help out at various times.  You might be able to assist once or twice a week, maybe once a month??

Whilst you are here, we have been throwing around some other ideas….Can you let us know if any of these options interest you?
