September on The Farm

collage September 2018

Another glorious month at Produce to the People with almost 1750 people accessing produce via our food hub, home delivery and service provider extravaganza! That’s a 91% increase on people accessing the service from September last year.  Big numbers that are ever increasing.  Luckily we have an amazing group of volunteers (and a couple of very part time staff) who work tirelessly each week to grow some of the produce we offer and also put together fresh produce boxes and do customer service in our food hub.

Unfortunately the Australian Government has again chosen to offer emergency food relief funding to Australia wide organisations only which means we can not even apply for funds.  Last time this happened there was no breakdown of where the money went in terms of state distribution so no one knows if any Federal $’s even came into Tasmania.  Crazy and frustrating.  Unfortunately no one from the Libs want to talk about it. No reply to emails or phone calls. We’ve had a reply from the Labor party – our local MP Justine Keay replied within minutes of receiving our email and Senator Urquhart is also on the case but there is nothing they can do except lobby for change.

Thankfully the Tasmanian Government support us and recognise the contribution we make and the need in Burnie area. They also know that supporting our social enterprise – micro green production and sales – helps bring in $’s that assist us in funding our work.

BUT the support we receive from the Tasmanian Government funds approximately one quarter of what we need to fulfil our potential which is why we are holding our GALA DINNER on October 27.

Every ticket purchased puts you in the draw to win a one on one mentoring session with Richmond Football Club CEO, Brendon Gale (worth thousands) as well as enjoying an amazing degustation created for us by Joseph Bugg using local produce.  Click on the links to purchase your ticket and join us for what promises to be an amazing night.

This month we were also very excited to find our that we are finalists in the Good Food Awards – Food for Good Award – aren’t we fancy!! We will find out later this month if we are the winners but gosh how lovely to be in the company of some amazing organisations Australia wide.

Planning and planting is well under way in our tunnel house and market garden and the hot house is bursting at the seams with micro greens for our fabulous customers. Throw in a few sunny days and it will be perfection!

Have an amazing October, hopefully we will see you at our GALA!

June 2018

June 2018 Collage

1366 visits for fresh produce.  A new Patron – Brendon Gale – CEO of Richmond FC. New chicks in the hen house and ducks in the paddock.  Another new micro green customer! A very generous donation. Some volunteers departed on Australian road tripping adventures or new jobs, some old volunteers returned. Leafy greens in abundance in our beds.  Garlic planted.  Volunteer GOLD. Happy days.
