It’s our Farmiversary!

PttP was born in the summer of 2009 and we have had quite a few changes in the model of how we do business over the years.  By far our most exciting and loved version is the one we are living right now – on The Farm at Burnie High.

This week we are celebrating three years on The Farm.

This is how we found The Farm.  More animal sanctuary than produce producing.  A blank canvas.  First job – contain and re-home all those free ranging beasties.

Of course the community support we get with food donations and corporate volunteering – Lion, Wynyard Seafoods, Golden Grain Bakery, Woolworths, Second Bite, Costas, local farmers, backyard growers, Caterpillar. A special shout out to our Patron, Ben Milbourne who makes sure we appear in every series he produces!  This is #communityfood in action.

You know we are nothing if not determined.  Even though we are down to one part time employee, our volunteer family has grown to 25.  Hopefully we can get The Farm back to primo production this summer.

We know the massive difference we make in our community and we have shown we are here for the long run.  In 2016 we had over 17,000 people access fresh, nutritious food via our service and we grew and gathered over 80,000 kilos of produce.

In the lead up to TEN YEARS of Produce to the People (2019) you will continue to see us grow, gather and give.

If you would like to be a part of our PttP family you can pop in on one of our Volunteer Orientation hours held every second Tuesday of the month at 11am and/or head to give now to make a donation.

Innovation in the Food Industry @ UTAS Cradle Coast Campus

A bit of lobbying on our part has seen UTAS offer this Unit at the Cradle Coast Campus and we are super excited about it, and it is 100% tuition fee free!

The Australian Innovation Research Centre (AIRC) – a research centre in the Tasmanian School of Business & Economics at the University of Tasmania – is a leader in the field of innovation. The AIRC’s research informs its teaching with the Centre delivering units in the areas of organisational innovation, food innovation, commercialisation, and enterprisevia undergraduate, postgraduate and professional development programs.

Innovation in the Food Industry | Whether you’re producing, processing, packaging, purveying or presenting food, Innovation in the Food Industry will give you the tools and knowledge base to integrate innovation into your business strategy.

Topics covered include an understanding of creativity; application of innovation to the food industry at a business level; effects on commercialisation and entrepreneurship; food security and challenges to the food industry; regionalisation versus globalisation; innovation systems.

Local, national and international case studies will be drawn upon to illustrate this theory, as well as case studies of innovative food businesses and entrepreneurs. Additionally, guest speakers will be invited to provide their unique insight and knowledge into the industry.

DETAILS | This unit is web-dependent with a three day compulsory face to face component.
